Hi,
Me and my partner have been TTC for nearly a year now, my periods use to be every 30days but about 6months ago changed to every 36 days for 2 months the changed again to every 40days. i have had my periods for 6years now and they have been pretty spot on till this change 6months ago. i had a misscarriage at the end of 2007 and then fell pregnant in march 2008 which i had no problem conceiving, my daughter is now nearly 2 and we really want her to have a brother or sister, but its taking ages.

do you think there is anything to worry about with the length from 1 period to the other and could this be the reason im not conceiving???

thanks for reading

Probably. . Your period usually occurs about 14 days after ovulation. Since your cycle is varying it can be difficult to determine when you are ovulating. To determine the best days to have sex, you can try checking your cervical mucus (which I find gross, but some women swear by it) charting your basal body temp or get an ovulation predictor kit. I have done a combo of the bbt and the opk's. I like the opk's the best because it tells you right when you are about to ovulate. You can get these at any drug store or at some dollar stores.

It really depends on how often and when you and your partner are active. The average healthy couple has a 25% chance each month of conceiving. I wouldnt worry to much that your period is changing, it is very common in young women. Mine had always been unpredictable, miserable, long, painful, and heavy all of my teenage years, and began to steady out in the past few years. Im sure you already know about ovulation and what not, so perhaps with the change in your period youve missed your fertile days when ttc. If you are concerned i would contact a doctor. You could also try an at home fertility test just to put your mind at rest if you had any concerns of being infertile. best of luck to you!!

i also suffer longer cycles. my last cycle was 49 days. so what i decided to do seeing as we are ttc and it's been over a year now., was use ovulation test strips. (ones that test for the LH surge in your urine.) I buy them in bulk off ebay. I really think it's out best shot at ttc, gives us a better understanding of our bodies and when to do the deed. Good luck and baby dust.
