right now my current birth control method is the patch but i am also a heavy smoker, someone in my family told me that smoking on the patch is very harmful to my health, is that true?

patch increases risk of heart attack and stroke , higher than pill. when you smoke that raises it even higher. many have died on patch and law suits are pending in several countries including the usa. i would ask about depo shot or iud etc.. other options from your ob gyn.

From what i have heard you can catch a minor stroke if your smoking and on birth control pills, I dont know if that goes the same for the patch. Try to speak to your doctor, they should further assist you on that. good luck.

Smoking can cause blood clots if you're on the patch.

Its bad for any birth controls because it increases your risk for a blood clot and eventually could lead to a stroke.
