I would like to know what the chances are of having a red headed child

Me: Hispanic (Half Mexican/Half Costa Rican). Black hair. Very dark brown eyes (close to black) and I get a very dark tan. There are no red headed children on either side of my family that any of the living family members can remember

Her: Brown hair, hazel eyes, a lot of freckles but tans easily. Her great grandma had red hair, but her grandmother, and mother don't. She has a brother and sister with read hair.

Practically none.

Brown hair+black hair usually equals brown or black hair.

My mom's dad had red hair and her mom had black hair.

She has black hair with red highlights.

(Well, it's mainly gray now, but you know what I mean.)

Though hair color isn't a true dominant trait (not like, say, dimples), dark hair usually covers up light hair.

I'd say the chances are very slim indeed.

Your baby isn't likely to have red hair. Red hair is a recessive trait, and you need two recessive red hair genes (one from each parent) to have red hair. Since you are hispanic and have no red hair in your family whatsoever you will not likely pass a red hair gene onto the child. Your girlfriend/wife may or may not be a carrier for the red hair gene. Best case scenario you two could have red haired grandchildren if your wife is a carrier for the red hair gene.

Your toddler isn't probably to have crimson hair. crimson hair is a recessive trait, and you elect 2 recessive crimson hair genes (one from each and each verify) to have crimson hair. considering which you're hispanic and have no crimson hair on your loved ones by any potential you will not likely bypass a crimson hair gene onto the youngster. Your lady buddy/spouse could or could not be a provider for the crimson hair gene. suited case concern you 2 could have crimson haired grandchildren in the adventure that your spouse is a provider for the crimson hair gene.

Your child will not hair red hair. Since you have dark hair, and have no other color in the family, this is dominant, and the dominant always takes over the recessive traits. However, he or she will carry the trait, so that his or her child may have red hair in the future.
