I'm assuming you're talking about blood types. The "positive" or "negative" after your blood type indicates your Rh factor status.



I'm simplifying a lot here, but in general terms, Rh positive menas that you have a certain antigen (immune system component) in your blood, and Rh negative means you don't. The reason that this is important in pregnancy is because mothers-to-be who are Rh negative and fathers-to-be who are Rh positive could potentially have a Rh positive baby in an Rh negative mother's womb. Again, I'm simplifying this a lot, but in that scenario, the baby's blood and the mother's blood are "incompatible" and can react with one another, causing danger to the baby when born. Fortunately it is treatable before the birth or even shortly after, as long as the doctors know about things before it becomes a problem.
